Crisis Intervention Service

Crisis Intervention Service provides a holistic approach to meeting the needs of survivors of homicide and other violent crimes (attempted murder, kidnapping, burglary, robbery, assault, stalking, harassment and other crimes against persons). 

Our professional staff and trained volunteers provide:

  • 24-hour crisis line
  • Family and individual counseling
  • Advocacy to support survivors through the criminal justice system and help connect with needed community resources
  • Accompaniment to law enforcement meetings and court proceedings
  • Information & Referral
  • Support Groups
  • Community Education
  • Other supports and services identified by the client

Losing a loved one to homicide is a tragic and life-altering experience. Family members and friends of the victim are suddenly faced with a new reality, painful grief and isolation.

Crisis Intervention Service works to help survivors of homicide victims by providing a number of free and confidential services during this traumatic time and into the future.

Crisis Intervention Service offers free and confidential services 24-hours a day, seven days a week in the following 14 counties: Allamakee, Cerro Gordo, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Hancock, Howard, Mitchell, Winnebago, Winneshiek and Worth.

We have offices in Dubuque (Dubuque County) and Mason City (Cerro Gordo County).  Our Violent Crimes Specialist travel throughout the entire service area to meet with family, friends and communities impacted by homicide and other violent crimes.

Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center

DSAOC’S Homicide/Other Violent Crimes Program covers 15 counties in North Central Iowa including: Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Calhoun, Franklin, Greene, Grundy, Hamilton, Hardin, Humboldt, Kossuth, Pocahontas, Webster & Wright. We provide survivor support for any homicide or other violent crime including; murder, kidnapping, vehicular crashes, burglary, assault, attempted murder, robbery, stalking, harassment, and any other crimes that impact someone.

Our advocates:

  • provide survivor support
  •  assist survivors filling out Crime Victim Compensation applications
  •  accompany survivors to court
  •  are a liaison to law enforcement, medical staff, funeral homes, and prosecution
  • Assist in contacting family, friends, and neighbors
  • Homicide Survivor Support Group
  • Assist with victim impact statements
  • Are a community resource
  • Provide individual counseling

Our goal is to make any necessary obligations easier, more understandable, and attainable in the most caring way possible. Our mission is to assist individuals, families, friends and neighbors through the trauma of a violent crime.
