IowaVINE

What is IowaVINE?

Iowa Victim Information & Notification Everyday (IowaVINE) is a free and anonymous telephone service that provides victims of crime two important features: information and notification.  IowaVINE gives crime victims and other concerned parties access to timely and reliable information about the custody status of an offender.  Information includes an offender’s apprehension, transfer, release, escape or death.

How Do I Register?

Victims can choose to receive notification by phone, tty, email and/or text message 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year.  To receive notification by phone, you can register your phone number by calling the IowaVINE toll free line at 1.888.7.IAVINE or by going to www.vinelink.com.  If you want to register your email address, you must visit the website.  You can also access offender custody status and location information online at www.vinelink.com at any time or by calling IowaVINE at 1.888.742.8463.

If you choose phone registration, you can receive notification on multiple phone numbers, including cell phones, by registering each number.  You will be given a PIN number for phone notification.  When IowaVINE calls the number(s) provided, a pin must be entered to confirm the notification was received.  IowaVINE will continue calling until a PIN is entered, or until 48 hours have passed.

DO NOT depend solely on IowaVINE for protection from the offender.  If you feel you may be at risk, contact your local law enforcement agency or your local victim service program for immediate support.

What If My Information Changes?

If your phone number or email address changes, remember to update your registration information.  You can update your registration information by visiting www.vinelink.com and clicking on “Update Registration” (do not re-register with your new information).  If you change phone numbers, please delete your former phone number from the IowaVINE system.

What If My Offender Is Transferred to a Different Location?

An offender in a county jail will receive a new identification number if transferred to an Iowa Department of Corrections prison or another county jail.  You must reregister with IowaVINE once the offender is moved to a different or new facility.  The IowaVINE system will guide you through the re-registration process.

IowaVINE is completely anonymous.  The offender will not know about a victim’s registration.  It was created as a way to provide information, notification and peace of mind to crime victims.  For more information, or help with registering, contact your local program or the Office of the Attorney General of Iowa toll free at 1.800.373.5044.
